On Saturday, the baggagerie outside the train station in Bourg Saint Maurice was flooded with clothing donations from all the locals in the Tarentaise valley, for the second time this year.

The idea was to collect unwanted winter clothing to send to those who were affected by the devastation of the earthquakes in Nepal.

The Communauté de Communes de Haut Tarentaise kindly leant the Humanlaya charity the baggagerie outside the train station in Bourg in case of unpredictable weather. The foundation was created by Nathalie Despas almost three years ago and has become a crucial aid-provider for Nepal after the earthquakes.

The Les Arcs/Bourg Saint Maurice ski club have joined the Humanlaya association and have organised 3 different warm clothing collections throughout the last few weeks of May. The first two have been an overwhelming success - Locals were asked to specifically try and locate warm/waterproof jackets for children (trousers less so) in sizes M/L, fleeces, socks, sunglasses and hats.

A lorry, supplied by Établissement David (a local drinks company) and a mini bus from the Les Arcs/Bourg Saint Maurice ski-club (the organisers of the event) were not large enough to transport all of the donations that had been made. A whopping 30m squared were collected and taken to an old hangar belonging to the 7th Battalion of the chasseurs alpins.

The third and final clothing collection will be on Saturday between 4pm and 6pm outside of the train station at the baggagerie.

Please donate what you can, ensuring that all clothing is clean, in good condition and in a bag.
