If you were wondering why some of the lifts were shut in Les Arcs yesterday, you can thank mother nature, blowing a hoolie across the tops of the mountains!

On the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes, winds of around 160 kmph (that's around 100 mph) were recorded (photo from Any Parant Photo), with Val d'Isere clocking up 152 kmph at the top of the Bellevarde and La Plagne around 100 kmph.

Les Arcs doesn't seem to have suffered too badly, with most of the lifts staying open.

It's worth checking the weather forecasts the night before you're planning on hitting the slopes, and then keeping a close eye on the live lift status before you actually head out in the morning. Let's face it no-one likes hanging around in the cold on lift standby and you might enjoy staying indoors with another cup of coffee and a croissant until the weather has calmed down!
