April Snow Showers: 9th April 2013

We give up....

What is going on in the Paradiski? It is the 9th of April and it is dumping like January out there. It's been coming down for two days in various temperatures and was a bit wet and melty yesterday but overnight it’s gotten it’s self together and now it’s coming down thick and fast in big soft flakes that have no place falling in spring. Get amongst it whilst it’s there because the forecast is calling for a change later in the week and really how many more spring powder days can you hope for?

Easter Treat: 28th March 2013

8cm has fallen already fallen, more to come

Once again the weather has gone from glorious sunshine to snow! If we've learnt one thing from this winter season, it's that the long term weather forecast can be trusted. Fresh snow is falling in Les Arcs from around 1100m upwards but it is trying to snow further down the valley although the ground is warm now and it probably will not settle. Around 5-8cm has already fallen at around 1800m. Visibility up the hill is limited but this snow together with a little that fell earlier in the week, is definitely welcomed. After all, if we continue to have many more days like we had yesterday, with temperatures reaching 15 degrees, lower resorts could struggle in the last few week of the season.

Monster in March: 18th March 2013

Late season snowstorm

Well, it feels like winter is well and truly back in the Paradiski! Les Arcs and La Plagne have been experiencing some big snowfalls with well over 25cm of white stuff falling overnight. The storm started yesterday lunchtime with incredibly strong winds coming over from the Italian border and gusting down the valley. Luckily these winds weren't quite as strong further up the mountain although I would have thought they will have had some effect. Main thing is, it's still snowing and looks set to continue. There has been plenty of bombing up there already so that's always a good sign that there's loads!

Fluffy and Cold: 14th March 2013

The Forecast is Wrong and We Don't Care

The guys at the forecast are still getting it wrong but at least it’s working in our favour this time and we’re now getting all the snow they promised us last week. It has been dumping today, at least 6cm fell last night and has continued throughout today. The temperature has dropped so the snow’s settling well and is really light and fluffy rather than the wet heavy stuff we’ve been having of late. The forecast was for Baltic temperatures today and although its nowhere near as cold as the -16 we were predicted its cold enough that the snow is falling all the way down the mountain giving the lower runs the freshen up they definitely needed and turning the upper slopes into a powder playground.

Snow Up High : 11th March 2013

A welcome return

We woke this morning to snow on the trees and a dusting on the ground again. Up in Arc 1800 there was a good couple of centimetres but the clouds were surrounding the mountain and it was difficult to get a gist on what conditions might be like today. Now though the clouds are breaking and although it didn't snow right down to the valley, there has been snow down to 1,600m so it will definitely suit the slopes which do need a bit of a top up. Hopefully we are set to have a couple more of these overnight snow showers this week with temperatures dropping as the week goes on.
