Les Arcs Snow Report: 20th December 2015

The start of the holidays in Les Arcs

featured in Snow report Author Rupert Osborne, Les Arcs Reporter Updated

So the opening week has drawn to a close, as the rest of the season opens up!

The buses are now running their normal schedule from Saturday, meaning easy and late access between Les Arcs 1800 and Peisey Vallandry. Also giving late ski access back to PV is the TC Des Villards lift (Mille8) which remains open until 19.30, so a few more beers in the village is possible.

Depending on your skiing ability or preference, there is something for everyone. I spent a lot of time over in 2000 which seemed to have the best and consistent snow conditions all week. However, we’ve also been having great fun over in Peisey Vallandry where it’s possible to link up several runs down from the top of Transarc to 1800 via Peisey. Needless to say it’s very quiet on the slopes, so no waiting at lifts and barely any traffic. Lovely.

The locals (and my) favourite run, Le Derby in PV isn’t quite yet running smoothly due to the lack of recent snow, as are a few across the resort. They’re clearly marked as closed due to being unworked but most are still skiable and enjoyable, just require an extra level of care and a slower decent. Right now 47/107 pistes are open and 29/52 lifts. So still not 100% working order right now, but it’s early days!

The clouds are slowly coming in so lets hope they’re bringing the good stuff along with them [see all the forecasts here].

My suggestion for a good long fun run would consist of the Aiguille Rouge down to Bois de l’Ours, back down in to 2000 to Arcabulle, back through to the top of Le Derby then left toward PV and down to the Vallandry or Peisey lifts.
