Great tree runs in Peisey as snow clouds come in

It’s been cloudy with minimal snowfall…but that’s all about to change

Last weekend we were treated to an epic bluebird Sunday, which was great for my friends that came out to experience Les Arcs for the first time.

However most of the other days in the week were cloudy, overcast and not exactly what we’d expected. There were a few bursts of rain, topped up with a sprinkling of snow on the higher ground. Which is always welcome of course. Within the trees and lower down around the resort it wasn’t that bad and visibility meant we could venture where we wanted.

In the gloom of the thicker mist we managed to find some great tree runs in Peisey and during the sun breaks 1600 gave us some excellent visibility, soft snow and fun runs down to the Mont Blanc chairlift.

Mid week as cloud really set in, we ventured to l’Arpette bar for some après drinks and table dancing, followed by an evening mountain meal in the restaurant. This consisted of a salad starter with lardons and croutons, with the main course being a mixture of a large raclette to share, hot stones to cook chicken and beef, local hams and saucisson, dauphinoise and new potatoes. All washed down with a few jugs of vin chaud, beer and bottled wine. Excluding the beer, it was a very reasonable €30pp.

The evening concludes with a DJ and more table dancing, don’t be fooled that this is an adult only evening or that you’re only able to access it by skiing. There were several families with young children and the restaurant offers a snowcat/taxi service from 1800 up to the restaurant for those not wanting to ski back home after. Granted if you do choose to ski back you do so at your own risk, however in a large group as we were it is great fun…even all the way back to Peisey-Vallandry like we did!

Friday, the last day of the holiday (for my friends at least) we were once again treated to a cold, but beautiful bluebird day. We ventured up to the top of the Aiguille Rouge (3227m) to take in the stunning views of Mont Blanc and enjoy a lengthy run back down mixing big, wide fast red runs, black runs and finding off piste powder turns where possible.

Looking forward to this week, it seems that we’re in for a treat with well over a metre of snow coming our way! Hoorah! Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are looking to be the heaviest days, so if you’re travelling then be wary of possible delays and cold temperatures on the roads.

As we know, the weather can change as and when it pleases so keep an eye on snow reports. But fingers crossed it stays like this or increases, as we also know how awesome lots of snow is.

Bon après midi!
