Les Arcs Snow Report: 6th January 2016

Well, that escalated quickly...

Great news (as I’m sue you’re aware), Les Arcs has been blessed with an almighty dump of neige. And it’s not over yet, not by far…

Over the past few days around a foot of snow has fallen with consistent top ups on the horizon. An estimated 50-70cms is due to fall on Thursday alone with more following that. Winter has finally come.

Yesterday we were treated to a superb powder day, fresh tracks all morning with many unspoilt areas across Les Arcs. We started in Peisey-Vallandry, then made our way over to 2000 but the lifts up high were closed due to the avalanche risk. However if you know Les Arcs you’ll know how much there is to explore here regardless.

Arc 1950 is looking very picturesque with all the new snow, giving a real winter mountain resort feel such as Whistler, Canada. While you’re there, why not have a drink in the bar, Whistlers!

Heading back up the Bois de l'ours lift over to 1800, it shows you just how much open space there is, especially off piste around 1950/2000. However, it gets tracked early so aim for the first lift (or near enough).

Down into 1800 there are options everywhere on, off and side piste for the less adventurous wanting to sample some powder! However as seen at the end of my video…the right ski is needed for the deeper stuff (or perhaps I need a better technique!), I only had park skis on which didn’t fully cut the mustard.

Either way, if you’re here for piste skiing it’s incredible. Off piste lovers, hold tight as it’s forecasted for 52cm on Thursday plus some splashes before and after. It’s looking like Les Arcs may have a solid winter again at last!

The freezing level is yet to drop to the valley but the snow has made it all the way down making the whole range look spectacular from whichever way you catch a glance.

Winter is here.
