Taking five years from concept to completion, the new water retention lake L'Adret des Tuffes above Arcs 2000 is now being filling up, ready to supply water to snow cannons throughout the Les Arcs ski area, pretty much guaranteeing skiing. Great news!
The lake, which is technically a dam due to its size, is capable of holding a whopping 450,000 cubed metres of water. Workers are understandably proud of delivering this enormous project on time and it has been officially named the biggest water retention lake for snow cannons in France. The Les Arc lake beats the 300,000 metre cubed lake built last summer in Grand Bornand ski area that previously held the record.
Not only will the lake serve to produce artificial snow through the winter, it is hoped the lake will become a fishing lake in summer, as it is ideal thanks to the clarity and purity of the water.
