Les Arcs 1950

The most chocolate-box pretty of Les Arcs villages

Les Arcs 1950

The village of 1950 is exceptionally pretty. If Disney were to design an Alpine village, 1950 is what they would create. The village is completely pedestrianised and you can easily walk/ski from the top to the bottom. It is located just underneath the village of 2000 and is in the middle of the pistes. You can ski in and ski out of 1950.

The closest town to Les Arcs is Bourg Saint Maurice. This is easily accessed via the funiculaire that runs everyday during the Winter and Summer seasons. There is a friendly local community and a few large supermarkets. There is also a swimming pool, train station, cinema and various bars and restaurants. It's lively throughout the year and there are some lovely local festivals and a Saturday market. To get to the funiculaire you can take the free bus (navette) to Les Arcs 1600.

Sights & Attractions in Les Arcs 1950

The Mont Blanc is visible from all of the Les Arcs villages. However, there is a more spectacular sight at the top of the Aiguille Rouge, the highest point of the resort. To access this breathtaking view you must take either the Cabriolet to 2000 and walk to the Varet bubble or take the Marmottes chairlift to the Varet bubble. You take the Varet bubble and then the Aiguille Rouge gondola (approx 35 mins journey time in total). From here you will see a 360° view of the Alps, it is truly spectacular.

In the summer there are lots of activities as well; swimming; hiking; mountain biking; cycling; horse riding; golfing etc. You will not be bored!

Dining in Les Arcs 1950

The restaurants in 1950 fit into two categories: average and excellent. There are your typical Savoyard restaurants, French cuisine, pizza and Tex Mex so there is a little something for everyone. There are 3 that really stand out: La Vache Rouge, Le Brasserie 1950 and Les Tables de Lys. La Vache rouge is pretty recognisable because there is a giant red cow standing outside. Le Brasserie 1950 and Les Tables de Lys are both more expensive French gourmet restaurants to the right of La Vache Rouge. The Brasserie 1950 also has a breakfast menu.

Nightlife in Les Arcs 1950

There are a few bars in 1950 and a nightclub. There is Chez Luigi's right on the piste with a large sunny terrace, they show sports and have live music. There is a nightclub in the same building as Luigi's. There is also Les Belles Pintes. They have live music and is situated next door the Meli snack. The bar that is probably the busiest and the best is O'Chaud. It's frequented by most of the locals and has a fun, buzzy atmosphere.
