Once again we have had some heavy snowfall in Les Arcs, although the manner of its arrival was quite strange, even for this predictably unpredictable season. Snow has been falling at all altitudes since Tuesday afternoon, bringing a healthy fresh mantle of powder to the pistes and villages.
After a few days of unseasonably warm temperatures and largely inclement weather, Tuesday saw a dramatic turn-around, with the freezing level suddenly dropping and the snow coming in equally as fast. In the morning, there were a few light showers and even some sunshine but a gusty couple of hours rapidly brought a snowy change to the mountain. By 18:00, even Bourg Saint Maurice in the valley (800 metres) had been turned into a winter wonderland.
There was further persistent snowfall throughout Tuesday night and, by 07:00 on Wednesday morning, it had amounted to perhaps 5-10cm in the valley and 10-15cm at altitude. Fortunately, although the temperature is likely to rebound a little once the snow finally abates, it should be accompanied by some clear and mostly sunny weather over the next few days.
