About getting to Les Arcs by Train
It's surprisingly easy, quick and comfortable to travel overland by train...from and to just about anywhere. Especially between some of the major European cities.
The nearest train station to Les Arcs is Bourg St Maurice which is about 30 minutes away by car or bus, depending on which part of the resort you're staying in. During the winter season (mid December to 1st week of April) Eurostar runs both a direct daytime and an overnight train from London St Pancras or Ashford in Kent to Bourg Saint Maurice.
The direct daytime Eurostar leaves London / Ashford on Saturday mornings and arrives around 8-9 hours later in Bourg St Maurice. The return train leaves early the following Saturday morning to the UK and takes around 7-8 hours. Other day daytime services are available but involve more changes in either Paris or Lyon Part-Dieu which then involve further changes to either Chambery or Grenoble and then a further connection to BSM. The direct day service is your best option as you won't need to change in Paris and find your way across the city from one station to another. For this reason it's incredibly popular and tickets sell out fast.
The night time Eurostar leaves London / Ashford and arrives into Paris-Nord station around 2 hours later. The connecting regional train to Bourg St Maurice leaves just over an hour later (from a different station - Paris-Lyon) and arrives around 8 hours after that, in the early morning at Bourg St Maurice. If you do need to change from Paris Gare Nord to Paris Gare Lyon, you can use the Paris Metro or hop in a taxi. Getting from one to the other takes around 30 minutes, however you should try and build in an hour or more to make sure you make the connecting train.
Cross country trains connect Bourg St Maurice to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport or from Paris-Gare-de-Lyon on the TGV service, which takes around 5-6 hours. If you're coming from Lyon Part Dieu (across town from Lyon Saint Exupery airport) you can reach BSM on the regional trains which takes around 3.5 hours. If you've flown into Geneva, trains change either at Chambery or Lyon and then onward to Bourg St Maurice, which takes around 4 hours.
Once you've arrived in Bourg St Maurice you can pick up a shuttle bus (on Saturdays only in winter) to the Funicular which then takes you up to Arc 1600 and then another shuttle bus up into the other resort villages or a take a transfer minibus directly from BSM.
