What you can do

Canyoning
Canyoning is travelling in river canyons using a variety of techniques that may include other outdoor activities such as walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling and swimming. All their guides are fully qualified canyon specialists. You'll be provided with a neoprene wetsuit, helmet & harness to protect you. You will be walking over rocks, jumping into pools, and swimming lots in the water, all the time accompanied by a fully qualified guide. Prices start at €60

Canoe Rafting
River Runners offer exhilarating paddles down the rapids in their tandem canoe rafts. They are unsinkable, stable and allow you, without too much technique, to fully enjoy the fun of white water river descents. The descents are in groups of 4 to 5 canoes, accompanied by a fully qualified guide. You are equipped with neoprene suits and shoes, a safety jacket and a helmet. Canoe Rafting is practised mainly on the Isere river and the course is chosen according to the water levels and experience of the participants.

Prices start from €55 and go from Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Gothard or Aime to Centron.

Hydro Speeding:
A fun and exhilarating way to get yourselves down the river! Take your float and play around in the currents as you head downstream. Hydro-speeding is little more physically demanding than rafting or canoe rafting but allows you to discover the unique sensation of surfing down white water rivers. What fun! This activity is accessible to all, no need to be a professional diver or swimmer, you just have to be smart at using the water movements, obstacles and waves. The Isere is a perfect river for this activity, providing many possibilities. The team will choose the best courses according to water levels and capabilities of the participants. You can do half day or full day outings, or even to a weekend or week course.

Prices start from €55 for a half day and included in the price is a float, full neoprene wetsuit, safety jacket, neoprene shoes, helmet, the transport of you and the equipment back to the starting point.

White Water Rafting:
Venturing down a river on a raft does not require any particular technical skills, nor do you have to be extremely fit. However, you do have to be in good health, know how to swim and not be afraid of going under water. White Water sports are accessible to all who love the natural environment and who are in search of a bit of adventure. Rafting involves, above all, a team spirit - the fearless in front, the more relaxed in the middle and the more technically able at the back. Rafting allows each person to experience an adrenalin rush as they glide down the rapids, while at the same time discovering some amazing scenery.

River Runners offer introductory rafting sessions (on a grade 3 river) and more difficult sessions for those looking for a bit more of a challenge. Half day sessions start from €60 for adults and €45 for children. Full day sessions start from €115 with a minimum of 6 people required. Weekend trips and rafting further afield are also available, so please enquire for details.

For rafting the river has the following grades for you to experience:

  • Grade 3:waves, stoppers and technical difficulties are more severe. There may be drops and powerful constrictions. The main distinguishing factor of grade 3 water is that the paddler will have to follow a recognisable route to avoid obstacles and hazards.
  • Grade 4:severe waves, drops, stoppers and other obstructions. The route is not easily recognisable and will usually require a careful inspection from the boat or bank. Grade 4 encompasses a wide range of rivers, from those with pool-drop rapids to those with extended continuous rapids; so there is a huge variation in difficulty. It is common to distinguish easier grade 4 rapids by grading them as 4- and harder rapids as 4+ (or in some cases, 3/4 or 4/5).
  • Grade 5: extremly difficult rapids with precise and technically demanding routes to be followed. Stoppers, currents and waves will be powerful and inspection is essential.

Worth knowing...

River Runners watersports are available from the 1st May to 30th September each year.

Reviews

  • "We were a family of 4 including 2 adrenaline hungry teenager girls and this company had loads for us! We did the white water rafting, canoe rafting and hydro foiling. Amazing! Each activity is a minimum of a half day and really exciting for everyone involved. The instructors are amazing and let us experience the full might of the River Isere. Go for it - you won't regret it!" - Trip Advisor
  • "We were a mixed age family group and all had a fantastic trip down the rapids. We were made to feel very welcome and safe and it was a perfect mix of thrills and fun. We had the opportunity to jump out the boat and swim as well as jumping off a cliff!! The photos taken by Murielle were really good and well worth the money for the CD." - Trip Advisor
  • "I emailed a couple of companies about rafting a few weeks ago and Remy was the only one to reply and could accommodate our family group on a full Isere descent. It was a wicked afternoon and our guide / boat captain Gil was obviously very experienced and checked what kind of stuff we wanted to do and gave us an excellent briefing and tuition . Soon we were flying down rapids, having little swims in the river and jumping off cliffs (optional!). The wetsuits and helmets looked new this season and well looked after with rinsing in disinfectant afterwards. It was really great fun and I highly recommend Coureurs de Rivieres / River Runners." - Trip Advisor
